Today for Featured Blog Tuesday I’m proud to bring you qPlog from Hayes. I first ran across his blog from a link on Howard’s blog and have been lurking there ever since (yes, as many of you know, I’m horrible at leaving comments). I owe a public apology to Hayes as I asked him to be my featured blog two Sundays ago. That gave him very little time to return his answers as I had planned to post this last Tuesday, but Hayes made sure he got it back to me on time. Last Tuesday ended up being a busy day so I didn’t get this posted then. Sorry for the artificial rush on needing those answers Hayes. I owe you one.
Anyway read on to learn more about Hayes:
- Tell everyone a little about yourself.
I just turned 36 last week. I have been happily dating Dan for almost 3 years now. I have spent the past few years trying to get away from being a workaholic. I actually met Dan as a result of my desire to have more fun. I was working 3 jobs and finally decided I needed a social life. So I gave notice at one of my part-time jobs. The very next day, I was at Gay Day at Elitch Gardens here with a co-worker from my regular job. While in line for a ride, we met up with some friends of my co-worker. Dan was one of them, and that, as they say was the start of my loosening up. Professionally, I am a graphic designer, although I don’t do as much of it now as I used to. The company I work for has outsourced most of that work to a certain country that seems to be stealing a lot of our jobs. So mostly, I have been working in Pre-Press getting customer’s jobs ready to go to plate for our presses. I also work part-time at Elitch Gardens, although, I am trying to avoid it this year. It will be the first summer in 15 years I haven’t worked in the park. I am a huge rollercoaster fanatic, and like to travel to the different amusement parks around the country. Oh, and I guess I should mention I am an Erasure whore. Of course, in October I can be found working the haunted house at Elitch’s. Definitely a lot of fun scaring the crap out of people!
- How did you choose the title for your blog?
It’s a variation of my original screen name on AOL. My favorite color has always been purple, long before I knew of the song Purple Haze. I had really wanted my screen name to be Purple Hayes, but it was not available. I tried many variations, and finally settle on PQHayes. It meant Purple Queer Hayes. I switched to the short lived e-world and modified it to QPHayes as I felt it sounded better. So basically qPlog stands for Queer Purple’s Log.
- What’s your blog all about?
I would have to say it’s really still a work in progress as far as direction. I mainly use it to write about things that are of interest to me. I also love to post funny videos I come across that I feel others would like. Ever since I went self-hosted with Wordpress, it has also become an experiment for me. I am using it to learn html coding and ease into it.
- Why did you start blogging?
I was very hesitant to start blogging. I’ve never felt myself to be much of a writer. My boyfriend Dan wanted me to start a livejournal. I tried it, but didn’t really like their site much. Then when Apple released iLife 06, it came with iWeb which had a blog feature. I started by just experimenting with it to see what I could do with the software. Then, as I continued, I found it fun and started trying to find things to write about. I would say in the last 6-8 months is when I really started getting serious about it. I still like to have the humorous side of it there. But I have really found that I express my feelings far better in writing. That has been the biggest surprise for someone who thought he couldn’t write.
How many of your real world friends and family know about your blog?
I know that many of my friends are at least aware of my blog. I only know of about 5 friends that read it regularly. I know others occasionally check it as they will comment on something they read on the site.
- Have you ever had any real world repercussions because of something you’ve blogged about?
So far, I haven’t really had any repercussions. There have been a few tense moments with Dan when I will blog about something that bothers me, or that I haven’t been able to deal with rather than talking about it. I really try to talk about it, but find it hard to verbalize myself.
- What post from your blog are you most proud of and why?
It would have to be my post “One Word Has So Much Power!” This post is the one where I really decided to rip the bandage off and expose my feelings. I wrote the post and struggled for a long time over whether or not to actually post it, or just leave it for myself. I realized that part of the healing process would have to come from putting my pain out there for all to see. At that point it could no longer be internalized since it was no longer a secret. I really started to feel myself turn around after that post.
- Other than Scott-O-Rama (of course!), what are three of your favorite blogs from your blogroll?
TheWebPen.net – Being one of my best friends. Howard has really been a big inspiration to my blogging. He has a great sense of humor, and always manages to make me laugh whenever I need a good one!
Gizmodo.com - is one I check regularly throughout the day. It really helps keep my geekiness alive! I love to read about new gadgets, and they really have a way of getting it updated quite frequently.
Ryanslegroom.com is another fun site. He has a very different style of writing. Always in prose.
- How much time do you spend online in an average week?
I spend quite a bit of time online as much of my work keeps me online. But as far as personally, I would say I spend around 2 hours a day surfing the web on average. Most of it is keeping up on all the blogs I read, but also keeping up on new technology and the amusement industry to see what the next big coaster trip is going to be for me.
- If you could interview any one person for your blog, who would it be and why?
I guess the obvious answer would be Erasure, but I would just be happy to meet them. There are plenty of interviews out there I can get that kind of info from. This is a difficult question. I think Tori Amos could be a great interview.
- What question should I have asked you, but didn’t?
What was it like coming out at a conservative Lutheran College? (Hmm… I just might have to write about my experiences with that)
Happy Belated Birthday Hayes! Now as a birthday present, everyone go to qPlog and show Hayes a little blogosphere love.
P.S. Hayes… If you like Gizmondo, have you checked out engadget? It’s my favorite gadget blog.

One of the most common questions I receive in regards to my blog is, "Why don’t you post pictures of you and Buckaroo?" As I always answer, the reason is mainly because I enjoy the anonymity of people not knowing exactly who I am. For people who know me personally, they could probably figure out this is my blog based on all the information I do share. But for those people who know me only casually, I don’t want to confirm that this is my blog. Who knows? Maybe someday I’ll run for president. I certainly wouldn’t want this blog to cost me the election.
It was highly unusual then for Buckaroo and I to decide to actually meet a pair of bloggers we had become acquainted with online. Ed and his boyfriend Todd were some of the first people I ran across online when I started to blog. Since they also live in the Phoenix-area, and we share many of the same interests, we agreed to meet them in person. We hit it off right away and have been good friends ever since. It’s great to have another gay couple to do stuff with other than go to bars.
Ed is the author of the blog Whine & Cheese. Todd used to have a blog called So Anyways, but his hectic job and work-related travel made it nearly impossible for him to keep up. Ed however entertains us every weekday with a new post come rain or shine (and in Phoenix that’s usually shine). I consider Ed the guru of pop culture. He often writes about one of the many TV shows he keeps up with or reviews one of the books he’s read. He intermixes these with amusing tales of his own life with Todd, their "kids" (two dogs and two cats), and his pride and joy: his Mini Cooper.
Ed can verify for you that Buckaroo and I do in fact exist as he has seen us in person. He can also tell you how we are both drop-dead gorgeous with bulging crotches muscles (Ed, the check is in the mail). Read on to find out what other great things Ed can tell you about his life and blog.
- Tell everyone a little about yourself.
A waning 30-something, over-educated, self-employed, textbook Libra, gay male… originally from New Jersey, but near "Arizona Native" status after 17 years in the Phoenix Metro area… partnered for approximately 12-13 years, co-habitating for the last 5… co-Daddy to a pair of dogs and cats. I don’t have to do stats do I? Since I am gay and over 30, well let’s see… (a) it doesn’t matter, or (b) I can just make them up. I guess the big thing that sets me apart from past and future Scott-o-Rama featured bloggers… I have personally met and see Mr. O-Rama on a semi-regular basis and will now reveal that Buckaroo is just a figment of Scott’s overactive imagination (just kidding, but I do know his real name!! Mwaaaaa-hahahahaha!)
- How did you choose the title for your blog?
The first incarnation of my blog was called "Blog Over Troubled Water." No originality points there. I jumped into the blogging thing without a whole lot of thought and that’s the best thing I could come up with at the time. While never a priority, I knew there was a better name out there. One day "Whine & Cheese" popped into my head… and it was (subliminal alert: featured blog question foreshadowing) a "proud" moment. C’mon, what personal blog is not whiny? Plus the pop culture emphasis of my blog and my love of puns… well, just perfect.
- What is your blog all about?
As Meredith Brooks’ one-hit wonder, "Bitch," proclaimed… it’s a little bit of everything all rolled up in one. That said, I can’t imagine any personal blogger honestly answering this question with anything other than "me"… though let’s face it, most of our lives are not that interesting to provide an endless supply of "material" (though some bloggers delusionally believe otherwise, but that’s a whole other post).
So on any given day on W&C, the topic of the day could be: reality television, books, dogs, weather, hunks, tennis, travel, politics, cooking, theater, MINI Coopers, music, cats… and who knows what else? I surely don’t.
Given that diversity of subject matter, my blog’s mission statement is "you can’t please all of the people, all of the time." But it’s those odd list of "parts" that make up my "whole"… hmm, that sounds dirty, but you know what I mean.
- Why did you start blogging?
It all started back in September of 2003. If my memory is correct (which I wouldn’t bet any serious money on), I was searching for stuff about Oprah’s hunky new (at the time) design guy, Nate Berkus. Of course, I didn’t find what I was looking for… but did stumble onto someone who was intrigued about him as much as I was… from there I check out the blogroll… and the rest, they say is history.
So it started on a lark… I tend not to stick with things… at most, I would have predicted a lifespan of a couple of months. But it ended up being a nice diversion and since I work from home (alone!), it morphed into a surrogate water cooler. It was my place to talk about what was on TV last night or what I did over the weekend. I certainly don’t miss working in (or commuting to) a traditional office at all, but the lack of social interaction can make one go a little crazy at times.
- How many of your real world friends and family know about your blog?
Not a whole lot. A few of my "real world" friends know… but they have either not stopped by or, if they have, have not told me about it! Family-wise, I am in various stages and comfort levels of "out"-ness. Regardless of that, neither the friends or family are terribly computer savvy or Internet crazed… so it’s not like I would expect them over here anyhow.
- Have you ever had any real world repercussions because of something you’ve blogged about?
No "real" repercussions, but two things jump out… a negative and positive one.
The negative one surrounded the unexpected death of a "character" from a somewhat obscure reality show that revolved around a Las Vegas casino. I was curious, so I tracked down info (from a local newspaper), posted and blogged about it. Soon I was the Internet search engine "ground zero" for this guy. To make a long story short(er), I got a couple of nasty ("who the hell are you?") comments from alleged family and friends of the deceased guy. While I never felt I did anything wrong, it remains the only instance where I have closed comments on and deleted some entries. It was not a fun experience for me. The show still re-airs from time to time… and I know when the episode that addresses the death airs… even years later, my search hits still go through the roof.
On the nicer side, I am huge fan of The Amazing Race. During Season 6, I was particularly fond of one of the male Racers… so much so, that I dubbed him "Fine Wine"… a little blog feature I had at the time highlighting guys who caught my eye. During the season and much to my embarrassment, he found my blog and left a few comments. Of course, I was a bit skeptical that it was really him, but several things ultimately confirmed his identity. Thankfully, he had a very good sense of humor about it and seemed quite flattered to be the object of affection and admiration (even from a slightly older gay guy!).
Both were gentle reminders of you never know who’s reading your blog!
- What post from your blog are you most proud of and why?
Truthfully, nothing jumps out for me. I am not a perfectionist. While I try to make each and every post the best it can be… and have been known to edit and re-edit (and re-edit, my Bloglines subscribers can attest to that)… generally I do not have a hard time letting them go. On a "blood, sweat, and tears" level… there isn’t an entry that I molded into a "masterpiece." The posts that get the most comments (the lifeblood to any blogger!), tend to be my most innocuous ones… so no "pride" there. Hmmm… let’s just waffle and say, there’s usually a little something in each of my posts… one line, a bitchy phrase, the title of the post… that makes me "proud."
- Other than Scott-O-Rama (of course!), what are three of your favorite blogs from your blogroll?
I have a pretty skimpy blogroll… so three is a pretty good chunk of it! At the risk of pissing someone off (if you are on my blogroll, you’re all winners!)… here are three in alphabetical order:
Cows in the Barn was one of those very first blogs I stumbled on and remains a favorite. I like to think MAK and me have a lot in common… well except that he’s a better writer, wittier, younger, and has a sitcom worthy family… okay, so we don’t have a lot in common!
Just a 1.5 years old and already a blogosphere gay hot spot for myself and many others, Kenneth in the (212) is doing just fine without my personal endorsement (though I think I did just that)… so I will give a well-deserved shout-out to the (212)’s sister-in-law, The Land of JD. I have been friends with JD (mostly cyber, but a couple "real world" meetings) for quite awhile. How long? Well, back when "baud rate" was part of the online dialogue… heck, she was even blogging back then (and the word hadn’t even been created yet)! Whether being the gloomily comical "prophet of doom" or sharing my love of pop culture (or even politics), JD is a kindred spirit. If you live and/or love the nation’s capitol, her site is also home to exhaustive (and exhausting!) coverage of the redevelopment of her ‘hood… Near Southeast DC.
Avoiding Philimination is Jeff at Rebel Prince. While we never really "know" the people who lurk behind their blogs, I have a pretty good hunch that Jeff and I would get along. We seem to like many of the same things and even joked that our TiVos should get together for a play date (Frontline, The Amazing Race, and HBO’s The Comeback?). Another wonderful writer… but what makes me even more jealous is his consistently sharp eye for photography.
- How much time do you spend online in an average week?
Ooooodles! On an average weekday, I am on my computer from early morning (6 a.m.) to mid- to late afternoon… and with the cable connection (and being home and unsupervised)… my e-mail and web browser (Firefox w/ 8 tabs) are always open and in use. I try to stay off the computer as much as possible on the weekends… surprisingly enough, that’s never been too much of a challenge.
- If you could interview any one person for your blog, who would it be and why?
This is a tough one. I am not outgoing with strangers at all, so it would be exponentially worse with a famous person (granted the question doesn’t say "famous," but that’s what you’re getting at right?!). So let’s ignore the question and go with an eclectic cocktail party guest list of: Julia Roberts, Madeleine Albright, Cher, Sarah Vowell, Kathy Griffin, Melissa Etheridge, Dolly Parton, Eleanor Clift (so Madeleine has someone to talk to), Sarah Jessica Parker, Mary Louise Parker, and Sandra Bullock… Josh Duhamel, Ricky Martin, Rafael Nadal, Mario Lopez, and Matthew McConaughy can be the shirtless waiters.
- What question should I have asked you, but didn’t?
How many drinks would it take for you to answer any question? Or do you already know… you are one of the rare people that can make that a reality!
Thank you Ed for taking part in Featured Blog Tuesdays. Everyone else, please head over to Whine & Cheese and check out this pop-culture genius for yourself.

If you’ve been reading my blog for more that a year, you may remember a frequent commenter that went by the name " Enviroboi." He regularly joined in the discussions here on Scott-O-Rama and always added something to the conversation. At first I thought he was some sort of tree-hugging nut because of his name, but I quickly realized he was a well-rounded nut. Then one day his comments stopped, and I cried. A lot. But only on the inside. Melissa Manchester taught me well. Well fear not: Enviroboi (real name Steven) is still alive and well. The reason for his sudden disappearance was that his company decided Scott-O-Rama.com was inappropriate for the workplace (?!?) and blocked Steven’s access to my site. Steven promises me that he still reads my blog regularly through a feed reader, but he just can’t comment (hmm… is your home computer blocked too, Steven?). Anyway, it was through his comments that I discovered his blog, the latest incarnation of which is called VUBOQ. He describes his site as "Intense discussion of all that’s important in life: Food Sex Alcohol Knitting." I agree with his first three choices, but I’m not so sure about the knitting. Read on to find out why Steven thinks it is an important part of life.
- Tell everyone a little about yourself.
Vuboq is … Pretty, with a touch of the Thinky. Vegetarian. Self-taught knitter. Owner of a totally PsychoKitty, named Isabella. I feel like I’m writing a personal ad. I like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain. I’m not into yoga and have half a brain. I’m also available and, like, y’know, cute and stuff. Oh, and, if I like you, I might put out. Hell, I might put out if I don’t like you. But you would have to be SUPER-HOT. I’m sure you are.
- How did you choose the title for your blog?
VUBOQ - Vicious, Unrepentant, Bitter, Old Queen - is a nickname my friend, Robert, created. There is a story behind it, which I might share one day.
- What’s your blog all about?
It’s all about me, but, then, again, isn’t everything all about me?
- Why did you start blogging?
About 3 or 4 years ago, I decided to keep a journal, but I was too lazy to handwrite it. I read an article about these weird things, called "blogs," in the Washington Blade, randomly chose Diary-X and started typing about my life at enviroboi.diary-x.com. Of course, a little over a year ago, Diary-X crashed, and I created VUBOQ. I also needed something to do at work. My job. It is v. boring.
- How many of your real world friends and family know about your blog?
Most of my friends know about it. My immediate family doesn’t. I mean, really, who wants his mother/father/brother/Second Cousin Three Times Removed reading about how much he enjoys butt sex? Also, I don’t like to share my blog with guys I’m dating, for similar reasons. Discovering I think you kiss like a Hoover (the vacuum, not the dead president … although you might kiss like him too. I wouldn’t know) might lead to a more rapid end to the relationship. And I don’t want that certain person who gives the best blowjobs EVER to get all cocky. *heh* "cocky" I hate having to censor myself. For example, I met this guy who said he read my blog. Thus, I never got to share the story of our first date that ended with the guy laughing at one of his jokes and blowing a snot bubble. We didn’t go out again. *whew* I’m so glad I got that off my chest. I’ve been dying to tell someone everyone.
- Have you ever had any real world repercussions because of something you’ve blogged about?
Not that I can think of. I’m more likely to experience real world repercussions because of something I’ve said/ done in person. Therein lies the vuboq.
- What post from your blog are you most proud of and why?
Magnolia Memories This post was one of the few I managed to rescue from the diary-x disaster. Someone pointed out that it’s not very vuboq-y. But I like it. I like it when a smell or a sight triggers a memory and I can write about it in a way which takes me back to that time. I think I achieved that with that entry.
- Other than Scott-O-Rama (of course!), what are three of your favorite blogs from your blogroll?
This is such a hard question. I love all the blogs on my blogroll. And, seriously, if you are on my blogroll, it probably means that at some point I have had/ still have a bit of a blogcrush on you. Sometimes more than a bit. No, that wasn’t me outside your window last night. It wasn’t. Honest. [Cute pjs, btw.] But, if I have to pick 3: Goblinbox, Center of Gravitas, and Tomokito (She needs to update more, though. Are you listening, kitten? Update more often). Gah. I feel all Sophie’s Choice.
- How much time do you spend online in an average week?
Augh! A math question. Vuboq hates the mathematics. But, let’s see …. If I spend all day at work online, that’s at least 8 hours per day. Add a couple hours each evening at home. A train leaves Chicago at 10:30AM traveling at 40 mph. And Susie has 6 apples and shares 3 with Johnny. Multiply by the numbers of days in the week (twelve?), subtracting time spent yelling at my stolen … er … "borrowed" wireless for being so slow. We come up with 7,309 hours online in an average week. That’s not high, is it?
- If you could interview any one person for your blog, who would it be and why?
Al Gore. No. Ricky Martin. Mmm. Ricky Martin … I need to ask him why he hasn’t responded to any of my letters, email, and phone calls? And I’d like him to explain that little restraining order. It makes no sense. Why are his lawyers trying to keep us apart? WHY?
- What question should I have asked you, but didn’t?
What up with all these hard questions, Mr. O-Rama? I guess the question you should have asked, but didn’t is … um … "Are you really as cute in person as you are in your photos?" The answer to that would be: "Of course, yes." The follow-up question would then have to be: "Are you really as vain as this questionnaire makes you seem?" The answer to that would be: "Good lord, I hope not."
Thanks Steven. You didn’t come across as vain at all. Slightly off-balance, yes, but not vain. I still don’t understand the knitting thing. Get those med levels checked. Now I, that great and not-vain blogger Scott-O-Rama, command the rest of you to head to VUBOQ and give him some blogger love. Make sure you practice safe blogger love though. You don’t know where that VUBOQ has been.

I’m not sure when I first stumbled upon Queer Beacon, today’s featured blog. It’s been on my blogroll though for a mighty long time. Focusing on gay content in movies, the site is especially helpful when trying to decide what to load up in your Netflix queue next. Here’s Augusto to tell you more by answering the infamous eleven questions:
- Tell everyone a little about yourself.
I’m from Brazil, and lived there until I graduated from law school. I then went to D.C. for a graduate law degree. While working for a D.C. law firm, during a business trip, I met my future husband, who is a New Yorker of Irish descent, and also a lawyer. We got married in Canada in 2004. Right now I am a Ph.D student.
- How did you choose the title for your blog?
I chose Queer Beacon because I wanted a name that indicated I would be alerting people about something. I never really intended for the name to have any phallic connotation, although I certainly have no problem with that.
- What’s your blog all about?
I write about the representation of gays in wider released movies, movies like 300, Shooter, Reno911: Miami, Borat, Breach, to name a few of my recent reviews. Actually, I don’t know if I should call them reviews, I don’t really know the first thing about movies, I just love to go to the theater and then try to assess gay content in the movies, even if the gay content was very little.
- Why did you start blogging?
I looked for a source of movie reviews with a queer perspective and couldn’t find anything. There were quite a few sites with reviews of gay movies, but none with the reviews of "straight" movies from the queer perspective. Also, I was feeling like I should do more for gay rights, and writing my movie reviews was the way I found to contribute a bit more.
- How many of your real world friends and family know about your blog?
Pretty much everybody, except my parents. My brothers and all of my closest friends, they all know about it.
- Have you ever had any real world repercussions because of something you’ve blogged about?
I don’t think so. Not that I know of.
- What post from your blog are you most proud of and why?
I guess the most successful post was the one in which I caught Jake Gyllenhaal wearing his boyfriend’s jacket on SNL. I got almost 100,000 visitors that day alone (mostly due to links from some major blogs: Jossip, Socialite’s Life, Towle, Mollygood, etc.). It was crazy.
I am proudest, though, of my movie reviews. I constantly get positive feedback about the "service" I am rendering to the gays; even though I certainly get my fair share of negative feedback, mostly asking me to find something better to do with my life. I’m pretty thick skinned, and can easily take the criticism.
- Other than Scott-O-Rama (of course!), what are three of your favorite blogs from your blogroll?
I actually do read pretty much all of the blogs on my blogroll, almost everyday. I probably focus a little more on the usual suspects though: Towle, Queerty, and Oh La La.
- How much time do you spend online in an average week?
I do a lot of research online for my doctoral program; I’m online 24/7. For fun, I probably surf about 1 to 2 hours a day (7 to 14 hours per week).
- If you could interview any one person for your blog, who would it be and why?
I would like to interview some big gay one day, like Ellen or Rosie. Soon, I will actually try to interview Trip Payne, a guy who creates crossword puzzles for many important newspapers. He is gay and starred in the movie Wordplay. That movie rocked, and instead of an actual review I will probably do the interview with him. I think people like Trip do a lot for the gays just by being who they are: out and normal (well, and genius in his case).
- What question should I have asked you, but didn’t?
My favorite food. I have two: shrimp moqueca (a Brazilian stew made with palm oil and all sorts of spices — yummers) and a good hot dog! I love knowing what are people’s favorite foods, I don’t know why. My husband’s favorite food is tomato, can you believe it?
So did you read that everyone? Blog about Jake Gyllenhaal and his boyfriend to get a ton of hits. Come to think of it, I think I’ll dedicate this blog exclusively to that topic. That, and Lindsay Lohan and her boobs. Be sure to head over to Queer Beacon and check out his excellent movie reviews. Thanks Augusto for taking part!

Holy frak! I’ve had so many other things on my mind today (not all blog related), that I nearly forgot that it’s Tuesday. You know what that means. Time to feature another blog from my blogroll. Today I’d like to introduce you to Jason and his blog Let’s Say You’re Right…. I can’t even remember the first time I stumbled across Jason’s blog, but I’ve been reading it for awhile now. Like me, Jason lives here in Phoenix, Arizona. Hmmm… maybe someday I’ll meet him in person (or maybe I already have!). Here’s eleven questions for Jason:
- Tell everyone a little about yourself.
I’m a NE Ohio native living in Phoenix, AZ for the last 6 years. I am moving back to Ohio (Cincinnati) in 2 weeks to be with my partner, Matt. We actually met through our blogs, so how’s that for a conversation starter!?! I’m also going back to school… so new job, new career, new townhouse, closer to family, the whole works! I don’t do anything half-assed. Lot’s of exciting new changes ahead.
- How did you choose the title for your blog?
The title of my blog, "Let’s Say You’re Right…" was a phrase a friend of mine always would say way back in high school. He was on the school’s debate team, go figure. At the time, I used to make fun of it, but it is a bit catchy, and better than "The Juicy Journal of Jason".
- What’s your blog all about?
ME. It’s all about me, 24/7. It’s a mish mosh of my daily life experiences, topical news, interests, etc. It’s also an outlet for my passion of photography, so you will see lots of purty pictures on my site. I also dabble into the Youtube craze of making my own videos, as well as recently joining forces with two other gay friends to throw our tiara into the ring of Podcasting. So I guess blogging for me has evolved into several different outlets of creativity.
- Why did you start blogging?
I always wanted to be better about keeping a personal journal, like I did when I was younger. I thought the online outlet was a bit intimidating at first, but after meeting a few people who were excited about online blogging I figured I would give it a try. I still strive to improve my writing skills, so that’s a major proponent as well. I’ve also met/speak to a lot of interesting people that I found through blogging, as well as surprisingly finding my mate (see answer 1).
- How many of your real world friends and family know about your blog?
My friends know about my blog, and several have one of their own now. Some of my family knows I blog. Lord, help me.
- Have you ever had any real world repercussions because of something you’ve blogged about?
Not so much. I try and stay out of the online blogorama drama you see or hear about every now and then, even when they desperately try to suck you in. I have had several people who don’t necessarily blog contact me through reading my online journal. One local gal who is planning a major life change/move appreciated my input on how to go about things, so that was flattering. I’m also in daily/weekly contact with some friends who I met through blogging, so I get to know some people on a more personal level which has become a real bonus from blogging. I’ve even met a few, which is always a blast.
- What post from your blog are you most proud of and why?
One of my favorite blog entries was from back last summer when visiting Matt in Ohio. He was cast as one of the leads in a local theater production of Honk, and as luck would have it they need some help with a stagehand that closing weekend. It was so much fun to see Matt perform onstage for the first time, be part of the stage production, and also get a behind the scenes glimpse of bringing the play to the masses. I also became the shows photographer, which was fun and the whole experience of theater really invigorated me with the notion to get my butt up on the stage in a local production in the near future. Yes, I got the gay musical gene!
- Other than Scott-O-Rama (of course!), what are three of your favorite blogs from your blogroll?
My blogroll is ever growing and quite long, I love so many of them. I really appreciate someone with a unique point of view or take on things. I really enjoy Spo-Reflections. Michael’s entries are always so intelligent, but also loaded with that dry humor I just love. I always come away learning something after reading his blog. Another favorite is JockoHomo. Jim lives not too far from my old stomping ground in Cleveland, OH, and like Michael’s is just very well written and makes you really think. He also writes with an edge and is quite different (in a good way) than your typical personal online journal. The guy is also built like a brick house, you have to check out those guns of his! I also really enjoy visiting Robert’s blog over at All Things But None. It truly is a different experience with each new post. You can tell he’s a really genuine and sweet guy. His posts are from the heart. I love how he incorporates every entry with an amazing message or photo and then also offers a cool song from his online radio player to complement it. There’s so many creative thinkers out there in the blogging world. I love it!
- How much time do you spend online in an average week?
I spend way too much time online that I’d like. I’m online at work probably 50-60% of my day. At home for personal use, I would guess I average about 15-20 hours a week. I hope to cut back in the near future. I’m like a big kid, I want to play outside more!
- If you could interview any one person for your blog, who would it be and why?
I was thinking possibly someone along the lines of George Bush or Dick Cheney, but I think I would be too pissed off to conduct an unbiased interview with those butt monkeys. Then I thought about painter Bob Ross (happy little trees guy) would be cool, but found out he’s no longer with us. I really would love to interview Bono, singer from the group U2. They’ve been my favorite band since I was in junior high, and I am amazed at the creativity and longevity of both the groups and his career. My main focus though would be his uncompromising humanitarian efforts with the One campaign and various other political and AIDS related charity work. Bono for President!! He just seems like a really cool guy to sit down and talk the whole spectrum of life with, while throwing back some beers.
- What question should I have asked you, but didn’t?
What’s my favorite color? It’s green.
Thank you so much Jason for your answers. Bono for President! Now that you all know a little more about Jason, head over to Let’s Say You’re Right… and give it some blogger love.

It’s Tuesday, so it’s time to share with you all another wonderful blog off my blogroll. Today’s blog is Puntabulous. Authored by two people, Craig and Olivia, Puntabulous is absolutely friggin’ hysterical. Craig and Olivia’s answers below should give you some idea of just how hilarious their blog is.
- Tell everyone a little about yourselves:
Craig: Napoleon Dynamite, but with worse dance moves. Bridget Jones, but with fewer love interests. And any random superhero’s plucky sidekick character, but with less saving-the-day.
Olivia: When asked in scholarship applications, etc, how I would describe myself in one word, I choose pizzazz! With the exclamation point. I enjoy ice cream, candy, kittens, and violent movies. I reside near Memphis, TN, but have never been to Graceland. I hold a crappy job at a sandwich place where the elderly enjoy yelling at me.
How did you choose the title for your blog?
Olivia: It was a cool summer night, and Jesus came to speak to me. He said "Olivia, you look really great in that outfit. It is…Puntabulous." No. That never really happened. I don’t even know the history of the title.
Craig: I like Olivia’s answer better, but when I first started the blog, I was going to use lots of puns (you can see my first post here). Then I realized that was a terrible idea (read: possibly the worst idea ever), but kinda loved the name anyway.
- What’s your blog all about?
Craig: It’s about being as completely silly and ridiculous as possible. When in a serious situation, and you have the opportunity to make a joke, Puntabulous always goes for the joke. No moment is too serious for a fart joke.
Olivia: Pizzazz and unity. I like for everyone to come together and join hands, looking good, maybe wearing something sequiny, and to read a new edition to Craig’s Super Viagra blogs.
- Why did you start blogging?
Olivia: Because I had no friends other than my cat and booze. Then Fluffy drank all my booze, wandered drunkenly into a wood-chipper, and I was left with only the blogging.
Craig: Because it’s quick and easy gratification for my writing needs. And if there’s nothing I like more, it’s quick and easy (self) gratification.
- How many of your real world friends and family know about your blog?
Craig: Most of my friends do, and a couple of people in my family know about it.
Olivia: Since I immediately disown anyone who does not know about and read Puntabulous, everyone whom I consider family or friend at this time reads it.
- Have you ever had any real world repercussions because of something you’ve blogged about?
Olivia: Only when Homeland Security saw my post about bombing a chain of Arkansas Post Offices.
Craig: My brother saw the post about me not wanting to go to the Thanksgiving Day parade with him and his family. That sucked.
- What post from your blog are you most proud of and why?
Craig: My absolute favorite post is the Transformers skit I did. It’s the one post I can read over and over and still get a kick out of it. Does that make me conceited?
Olivia: I think one of my personal favorite posts was when I had pneumonia. I was at the doctor’s office and it was actually my Mom’s idea to take a few pictures for a blog later on. We were worried that the doctor would walk into the room right in the middle and send me to a mental doctor instead.
Other than that, I love all of the debates.
Other than Scott-O-Rama of course, what are three of your favorite blogs from your blogroll?
Olivia: I am going to go with Boing Boing, Revenge of the Nerddd, and The Seventh Notion.
Craig: Eek! This is hard. Revenge of the Nerddd, I like Tomatoes, but not Tom Hanks, and Four Four.
- How much time do you spend online in an average week?
Craig: Wait. Is there an “offline”?
Olivia: It depends on how many people the government has me assassinating at the time.
- If you could interview any one person for your blog, who would it be and why?
Olivia: That lady astronaut with the diaper! As to why, I don’t know. But who does that kind of thing!? It’s crazy! And the thing is, she had a plan for the whole thing! A plan with a diaper!
Craig: Billy from Battlestar Galactica. The character though, not the actor. The actor would just think I’m crazy, but Billy would have no choice but to adore me (even if it’s only because I bribed the writers of the show to write him that way).
- What question should I have asked you, but didn’t?
Craig: How did you get so damn good looking? “You” being me of course, since you’re the one asking the question. But now that I think of it, how did you get so damn good looking? (Editor note: Awww… shucks Craig.)
Olivia: If I’d like a cup of coffee and some cookies while you asked me these questions. Because I really would have liked a cup of coffee and some cookies.
Now prepare yourself for a good belly laugh (or at least a fit of the giggles), and head over to Puntabulous. Thank you Craig and Olivia for taking part!
