As I mentioned earlier after writing my post "Let’s Pretend," I was accused by some neocons of being a tinfoil hat-wearing paranoid freak. I can assure you that I do not wear a tinfoil hat.
I cannot, however, speak for all the members of my household:

(Please excuse the blurriness and poor quality of the photos. They were taken with a cameraphone, and getting the pets to sit still tested my fragile grip on sanity to its limit.)

Since I’ve been back online, some of you have asked me how Karter is doing. For those of you who don’t know, Karter is my Australian Cattle Dog puppy that Buckaroo and I adopted last November. On September 6th, Karter will be one-year-old. He is a little taller than Bailey (our other adult Aussie Cattle Dog), but he is still more lanky.
It’s been challenging for both us and him these past few months as the hot Arizona summer requires that we keep Karter inside most of the day except for small potty or play breaks. At his age he is full of energy, and we are doing our best to give him ways to work it off. He loves to run from room to room in an attempt to get Bailey to chase him. Bailey however has gotten smart and stays in one place, occasionally barking at him, but letting him do all the running. Our cat Zoe has also learned to tolerate Karter and will often hang out in the same room as him. She has even tried to lick his face as she does Bailey’s, but unfortunately he won’t sit still for her. The only time she swats at him is when he sticks his nose into places on her where it doesn’t belong.
Here are a few photos I took with my camera phone, so they aren’t the best quality, but you’ll be able to see just how big he has gotten (remember- some of you asked for more puppy pictures!). If you’re really a glutton for punishment, there are more pictures over on my flickr account.

I know I’ve been M.I.A. these past few days even missing
Eye Candy Mondays and
Featured Blog Tuesdays (sorry Steven- next week, ok?). I have a good reason though. Our pup Karter got pretty sick Monday and we had to take him to the vet. He’s fine now, but he was vomiting and had diarrhea. Luckily, except for one throwing-up episode, that all took place outdoors. It must have been something he ate. Don’t worry- he wasn’t fed any of that tainted pet food. The more likely cause is the garden hose he ate, or the patio carpet, or the bark off the ash tree, or the area rug in the den, or his several dog beds, or one of the myriads of bugs in our backyard, or the chaise-lounge pad, or his grooming brush,
or our kitty cat, or one of the thousands of "chew-proof" dog toys he’s destroyed. Whatever it was, it didn’t agree with him.
Like I said, he’s completely back to his old rambunctious self now. Buckaroo assures me however that if I post a few "sad face" Karter pictures, you’ll all forgive me for missing a day or two of blogging. I mean seriously here folks- how can you resist that face?
Sad Karter:
Then of course here are the pictures of Karter feeling better and taunting our other dog Bailey as usual:
Believe it or not, there are some of you who have been asking me for even more puppy pictures. For you gluttons of
punishment cuteness, I have uploaded nearly every photo we have of Karter to Flickr. You can see
millions thousands hundreds more
here.
If you watch the progression of the pictures from last November to the most recent, you’ll not only notice Karter’s growth, but also our lawn turn from green to yellow and back; our three-year-old ficus tree nearly die during an unusually cold spell in January; and the temporary rabbit-fence I put around the pool.

I knew about raisins and chocolate, but some of the other items were a surprise. This is a ‘must-read’ for any dog or cat owner.
Be careful what you feed your pet Did you know raisins, tulip bulbs can be hazardous to your pet’s health?

It’s been almost a year now since Troy Master’s 4-year-old cat, Bill, died after nibbling on a bouquet of lilies. Even so, I could hear the pain in his voice as he told me about that terrible day.
“I felt like Bill would always be safe in my house, so having this happen from flowers just kind of blew my mind,” Masters told me.
He had put the vase of lilies up high, where he thought his two cats couldn’t get at them. Both did. One got very sick, but survived. Bill, a Maine Coon, could not be saved.
