This is Buckaroo today:

Candorville - Journeyman

I only watched the pilot of the show, but Buckaroo has been a loyal devotee.  Obviously he’s not having a Happy New Year, but I hope you are.

UPDATE: For those of you interested, there are various campaigns underway to save the show "Journeyman."  As I told Buckaroo, don’t give up hope.  "Jericho" was brought back after a similar effort by viewers.  Also, with the writers’ strike, new pilots and shows for the fall season are not being developed.  That means NBC will have a hole in their schedule to fill with no new shows available.

Anyway, here are those sites:

Good luck!

Now you 20-something and younger whippersnappers probably won’t remember this unless you’ve seen it on your newfangled YouTubes, but back in the day I used to be watch this every Christmas season in front of the warm glow of my babysitter TV:

I guess it depends on your age, but this video brings back a flood of memories for me.  The clip is from the Rankin/Bass special "The Year Without Santa" and like the other Christmas television classics, it used to air shortly after Thanksgiving every year.  They aired it earlier because the commercials were all for toys, and they wanted each of us little brats to have plenty of time to beg and otherwise drive our parents insane until they broke down and bought us the advertised toy for Christmas.  in many cases we really didn’t even want the toy, but since they advertised it on these Christmas specials, we suddenly had to have it.  It was more vital to our existence than even oxygen.

Ahh… the good old days.

P.S. The song "Mr. Heat Miser" as covered by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is on my 2006 Holiday Mix which you can listen to or download here.

It was suggested (in jest I hope) that I should have put Billy Idol on my latest Holiday album.  I wasn’t aware, but he put out an album of Christmas music last year.  He even did a couple of videos for it, one of which is below.  Now I used to like him back in the day, but all I can say after watching this is Geez!  The years sure haven’t been kind to Mr. Idol.  Is it just me or does he look like some sort of creepy plastic mannequin?

Special thanks to Da Duck for giving me Christmas nightmares for years to come!

As my loyal blog readers may remember, each year I put together a holiday album of Christmas songs.   As I explained previously:

Every year I like to make a holiday CD to send out with my Christmas cards. The tradition started back in 2000 when I was trying to find a Christmas CD for sale that contained all of my favorite holiday songs. Some had one or two of them, but no CD I could find was a complete collection. Heaven knows there is a lot of crappy Christmas songs out there that always seemed to be intermixed with the songs I liked. (See my list of the 10 Worst Christmas songs here.) Since this was about the time the original Napster started getting popular, I decided to put together a holiday mix CD of my own.

That year as I played the CD in my car and other places, several people heard it and commented on how much they liked it. When I told them I put it together myself, they asked me for a copy. As they played it for their friends, they were asked where they got it from. The following year, based on all the requests I received for it, I decided to make copies for all my friends and send it out with my Christmas cards. It was a huge hit.

I didn’t make a holiday CD the next two years for one reason or another, but I did receive requests. In 2004 I put together another holiday mix, but this one was quite different than the first. I tried to find songs and versions of songs that you didn’t hear on the radio everyday. I think I was successful, but I’ll let you be the judge. Again in 2005 and now in 2006, I have also made holiday CD’s and distributed them.

I just put the finishing touches on this year’s album. Let me introduce Scott’s Holiday Album 2007: It Just Might Reindeer.

You can listen to the album online by pressing play:

Or you can download the full album by right-clicking on this link and choosing "Save Target As…" (or "Save Link As" depending on your browser).

I didn’t have any specific direction when I set out to put together this year’s CD.  As I started putting the song mix together, I considered naming it "Beats, Brass, and Boogie" which is probably a more descriptive title.  I just couldn’t resist the pun of the title I chose though.  There are probably more songs on this album that people are going to either love or hate, but I took that chance anyway.  There was something about the songs by Sufjan Stevens, while far from traditional, that spoke to me.  Another song, "Holiday Road", isn’t normally thought of as a Christmas song, but I aim to change that.  It’s a great song and just fit with the mix.

This is provided for personal use only and is not for distribution of any kind.  I hope that it gives you a break from the same old Christmas songs you hear over and over again on the radio.  May it add a little joy to your holiday season!

(And yes, this was what I was referring to on Jaiku last week.)

You can listen to and download my previous holiday albums after the jump.

Back in 1994 Fox shot a pilot for their popular series "24", but something just didn’t click.  They decided to sit on the series until the time was right.  After a seven-year wait, the pilot was re-shot and the series finally debuted in 2001.

This original pilot was recently leaked on the Internet.  After viewing it, I think Fox made the right decision:

Hat tip: I forgot!  I saw this somewhere while catching up on my blog reading but cannot remember where.  If it was your site, I’m sorry I didn’t give you proper acknowledgment.

If you’ve ever checked out the "100 Things About Me" section of my blog (which I desperately need to update), you’ll know that I have a huge crush on Paige Davis.  Most people probably know Paige from "Trading Spaces" back when it was in its heyday, but she is also an accomplished Broadway actress.  If I were straight, Paige would be the type of woman I’d marry.

A few years ago when the Trading Spaces fad began to wane, the producers of the show got rid of Paige as the host.  I thought they made a terrible mistake, but at the same time it did free Paige up to go on to other projects.  After her departure Trading Spaces’ ratings plummeted.

Buckaroo sent me the following news clip.  While I think it’s way too late to save Trading Spaces, it is nice to see the new producers acknowledge that Paige was an integral part in the success of the show.

Paige Davis Paige Davis Returns to ‘Trading Spaces’

NEW YORK — Paige Davis is moving back to TLC’s "Trading Spaces."

The Broadway actress and TV host will return to the once-popular home makeover series beginning in January, the network said in a statement Thursday.

In 2005, TLC announced Davis would no longer host "Trading Spaces" and transitioned the series to a host-less format.

Davis had perkily hosted the show, which features neighbors swapping homes and redecorating a room, since 2001. Besides "Trading Spaces," she’s also appeared on Broadway in the musicals "Beauty and the Beast" and "Chicago."

I used to also have a crush on Jennifer Garner, but she kind of annoys me now.  Must she cry in every single role she’s in?  Marrying Ben Affleck didn’t help either.  I’ve replaced Jennifer with my latest crush, Cat Deeley.

P.S. If anyone mentions Trading Spaces’ former carpenter and ADHD poster boy Ty Pennington, you risk being banned from this blog.  Ty was only good looking in photographs.  His personality irritates the hell out of me.  Somebody get that man some Ritalin!!

P.S.S. I thought about going with some pun for the title of the blog post (e.g. Turning the Paige) but decided I would spare you.  Besides, everything I came up with sounded dirty.
