Despite public opposition the Chairman of the FCC, Kevin Martin, is prepared to allow big media to swallow up even more media outlets (television stations, newspapers, radio stations, etc).  In other words, if this goes through, Rupert Murdoch really will own (or at least be allowed to own) all media in America.

Respected journalist Bill Moyers gives us the scoop:

You only have until December 11th to let the FCC, Congress, and the White House know what you think. Contact the FCC here.

Wow. That sucks bigtime. How can the FCC make such a huge decision on their own? Is congress capable of intervening or are they only allowed to make “suggestions” to the FCC? I admit, I know nothing of this process.

Question is, are you going to contact the FCC to voice your concern?

    Dave-

If I recall correctly, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin tried to enact this, but the Supreme Court ruled that he needs to have a “public comment period” in order to allow citizens to voice their approval or disapproval. He only provided an extremely short period and he did it over the busy Thanksgiving time holiday. I have a feeling he will still enact it regardless of what the public says, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t call or write the FCC to express your feelings about it. If enough of us register a negative comment on it, and he still enacts it anyway, it may give more leverage for Congress or the SCOTUS to step in.
