"I think there is a handful of people who hate America. Unfortunately for them, a lot of them are losing their homes in a forest fire today."

-Conservative talk show and radio host Glenn Beck, October 22, 2007

Is this those Christian values that they like to talk so much about?

Forest fires are funny things. You see, while a reasonable person might think that their cleansing flames might only smite the homes of unbelievers, they are in fact natural phenomena which don’t really have any sort of independent will or knowledge of morals.

  2. Howard says:

And why isn’t he being kicked off the air like Don Imus? I find that just as insensitive.

  3. Adam says:

Clearly insensitive but also reveals his ignorance. Not that it matters because not matter where you are on the political spectrum losing your home in a fire is devastating, but San Diego and Orange County are conservative strongholds in Cali.

  4. The Hermit says:

And his geography is off. Southern California has a host of very conservative voters. Perhaps we might think about what “hating America” means. Perhaps it means something like pursuing the passage of laws that erode our civil liberties? Perhaps it means those people who decide that we should go bomb other countries because the leader has a name that sounds like someone who was behind terrorist acts so that the oil can flow unimpeded and enrich his friends?

  5. ChollaChick says:

Wow, he’s as stupid as he is insensitive. How is it that Don Imus was fired for making a stupid, yet relatively harmless (yes it was bigoted and stupid, but his whole show from what I’ve heard was pretty bigoted and stupid) comment and yet people who make comments about the death and destruction of half a state are allowed to continue? While I am not giving Don Imus an excuse for his thoughtless and ignorant statement, I just don’t think it was worse (or even AS BAD) as the vile hate-speech that pours out of the mouths of people like Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly, and Rush Limbaugh.

    ChollaChick and others-

Conservative pundits are constantly making outrageous and offensive comments like this, yet they accuse us of doing it.

Where was the outrage when Ann Coulter said “I think a baseball bat is the most effective way these days” in regards to how to talk to liberals?

  7. JdEB says:

Glenn Beck…Ann Coulter…can we PLEASE dispense with publicizing these idiots on a daily basis? All they want to do is stir up sh*t and get their name in the media - and we fall for it hook, line and sinker every time. Coulter has been discredited at every turn and Beck is just a Right Wing Nut (who, btw has a second generation coming up with his college age son) that uses a radio show as a bully pulpit to demean and degrade anyone who doesn’t think Exactly Like He Does.

Let’s focus on the real issue at hand - thousands of people in San Diego had to leave their homes on a minutes notice and are currently housed in Qualcomm Stadium. Now then just exactly WHERE are the Chargers and the Texans going to play on Sunday? And let’s not forget all the pets that lost their homes as well, many of them running the empty streets of Rancho Santa Margarita without food or water. I have several friends who lost homes in Orange County in the Santiago Canyon fire and they need literally everything. So my point is this - who gives a flying flip what the so-called “pundits” say about anything?

Oh, and let’s not forget that madman in Minnesota saying that the fires are God’s wrath for Schwarzenegger signing into law the Anti-Defamation in Schools legislation.

I think that I need a cocktail to sort it all out.

The only thing good about Glenn Beck is at least he’s honest. Like Bush really gave 2 cents about Californians?? Puhleez!

His comment doesn’t surprise me cuz of course they think us Californians aren’t really Americans! You can’t disagree with this admin. or protest and still be an American. Don’t you know that? You silly boy.

My Christian brother, the one I thought was really a Christian, made a comment this week & as a result, I no longer hold out hope for any Christian. I’m surprised that Beck didn’t say Jesus told him to tell Conservatives to bomb California.

    JdEB-

I don’t like to give these right-wing nut jobs attention, but at the same time I like to point out what hypocrites they are. Look what’s happening with Ann Coulter. Nowadays if anyone says that they listen to her, people view that person as an idiot. By pointing out just what a WASP-supremacist she is, we’ve completely discredited her.
