Since I’ve been back online, some of you have asked me how Karter is doing. For those of you who don’t know, Karter is my Australian Cattle Dog puppy that Buckaroo and I adopted last November. On September 6th, Karter will be one-year-old. He is a little taller than Bailey (our other adult Aussie Cattle Dog), but he is still more lanky.
It’s been challenging for both us and him these past few months as the hot Arizona summer requires that we keep Karter inside most of the day except for small potty or play breaks. At his age he is full of energy, and we are doing our best to give him ways to work it off. He loves to run from room to room in an attempt to get Bailey to chase him. Bailey however has gotten smart and stays in one place, occasionally barking at him, but letting him do all the running. Our cat Zoe has also learned to tolerate Karter and will often hang out in the same room as him. She has even tried to lick his face as she does Bailey’s, but unfortunately he won’t sit still for her. The only time she swats at him is when he sticks his nose into places on her where it doesn’t belong.
Here are a few photos I took with my camera phone, so they aren’t the best quality, but you’ll be able to see just how big he has gotten (remember- some of you asked for more puppy pictures!). If you’re really a glutton for punishment, there are more pictures over on my flickr account.

Awww, they look just like you!
These guys are adorable!
I live in the high desert with a German Shepherd and Great Pyrenees and I have to keep them indoors all day too. We throw tennis balls up the stairs about a thousand times a day to get them worn out
cute pups!
No indoor doggy daycare where you live?
He sure is cute! But then again, aren’t all our four-legged kids cute?
BTW, welcome back! Missed your semi-daily banter.

Karter is a looker, and I can tell from his eyes that he’s a smarty, too! Smart dogs are fun, but they can be a lot of work. My border terrier keeps us hopping.
Just stumbled across your blog, and I really like it. I read your 100 things post, and I can tell you that I DO know where the Quad Cities are (and I’ve been there many times), I’m gay and have a gay sibling, I hate W with a passion, and I love Prince even more.
So, what’s your favorite Prince B-side? I’m torn between “Erotic City” and “Shockadelica.”
I’ll be checking in often, now that you’re back from your hiatus!
And such a lovely shade of lavender, too!
Awww, Karter looks so cute… My cattle pup, Brianna, is all of 8 months old… and she STILL pees in the house. I always thought they were supposed to be SMART dogs. Ugh.
OK Scott, here’s some Cattle Dog trivia for ya; did you know that the white spot on the forehead of most Cattle Dogs is known as Tom Bentley’s Dog’s Spot?
Apparently back at the start of the breed a guy named Tom Bentley had himself a Cattle Dog and it had itself a spot on the forehead. Thus, Tom Bentley’s Dog’s spot.
Clearly I have way too much free time on my hands. That or I stare at my Cattle Dog’s head too much.
