me.dium

There is yet another new social service on the web called Me.dium.  Currently in beta, you can apply to try out the service at the Me.dium website, or you can join if you receive an invitation from a friend.  I was fortunate enough to get an invitation, and now I can pass invitations along to others.

What is Me.dium?  It’s a bit hard to describe.  As the company itself puts it, "Me.dium reveals the hidden world of people and activity behind your browser. Without having to do anything differently than you normally do, Me.dium shows you your online world and allows you to communicate with friends and others in a natural, contextual manner. It lets you see what else is around you and relevant based on what you’re doing – all in REAL TIME. Just like the way you interact in the real world."  You can read more here.

I haven’t really decided yet what I think of Me.dium, but it’s become evident to me that it’s more useful once you create a network of friends.  If you would like to try it out, simply send me an e-mail and I’ll send you an invitation.  Specify the e-mail address you want it sent to.  I can’t promise I myself will continue using Me.dium, but you can set up your own friends network if you want.

One caveat: you must be using Firefox 1.5 or above.  If you don’t use Firefox as your primary browser, then Me.dium will currently be unavailable to you.

They don’t allow non-Firefox users? Really? Thats like cutting off 90% of the market for a start up. Anyway, I would love an invite but I don’t use Firefox. :) Thanks for the offer though.

IE and Safari support is coming. They started with Firefox because you need to install a Firefox extension to use the site. It’s harder to create the same for IE and other browsers.

Auuugh! Another social networking website! MAKE IT STOP! MAKE IT STOP!

Seriously, it’s getting out of control. Can’t we just have Friendster and MySpace and be done with it?

Hell, I miss Tribe… I was really getting into it at one point and then *POOF* it was like everyone vanished. It’s to the point where I can’t keep track of all these sites anymore.
